Hi, I'm Leanne...

I guess you’re probably wondering what’s the story with the cattle?

Well, I live on a commercial beef cattle farm in Northern NSW with my husband – he’s the farmer. We’ve been here for almost 25 years and things are certainly a lot quieter now that our kids have all left home and are off making their own way in the world.

When I’m not busy helping clients I enjoy doing odd jobs around the farm and with the cattle. I also enjoy immersing myself in nature and just love hiking in wild & remote places.

My other passion is working as a food safety consultant & food waste expert. I’ve now amassed over 30 years of professional food industry experience both within Australia and overseas.

The food industry is dynamic, with a huge diversity across all it’s sectors, from producers right through to food service and everyone in between.

There’s new products, ever-changing processing & packaging technologies and constantly emerging challenges. All of this complexity keeps me thoroughly engaged & challenged.

It’s been a huge part of my life, but I’m still as passionate as the day I started my Food Technology degree all those years ago.

I genuinely enjoy working with people to share my knowledge and help them find solutions to their problems.

My professional life...

Starting out...

After completing my University degree, I worked for 5 years in food regulatory compliance & food premises fitout, then moved into a management systems & food safety training role for 3 years with QAS (now Intertek SAI Global).

FoodSure was founded in July 2000, after a colleague needed help to design & implement a food safety system for a meal delivery service for vulnerable clients.

The hard yards...

In 2001 we moved from Sydney to the farm and I began working as a contract food safety auditor & trainer for SAI Global, then later with BSI. This was a period where I travelled extensively around Australia and the globe servicing clients in a multitude of industry sectors.

I continued training clients in HACCP, ISO 9001, root cause analysis, food fraud vulnerability, food defence, allergen management, internal auditor & lead auditor training, as well as writing and delivering customised food safety training courses.

During this time I also audited to HACCP, BRCGS, ISO 22000 & FSSC 22000, numerous private Retailer Standards, as well as conducting High Risk/High Care 3rd party regulatory audits in NSW & Victoria for manufacturers and vulnerable populations. I also worked as a verifying auditor for BRCGS & FSSC 22000 auditors for many years.

I’ve worked with End Food Waste Australia for 3 years as a contract technical specialist addressing food waste reduction both within individual businesses and throughout their supply chains. I now offer food waste reduction training & onsite food waste assessments, either integrated with existing food safety work or as a standalone service to clients.

Currently...

I’ve long held a special interest in Standards and how they provide a framework to drive consistency and improvement. I regularly work on the development & review of various food safety standards for certification bodies and major retailers.

I’m an industry representative for Standards Australia on various ISO committees and also an active professional member of the Australian Institute of Food Science & Technology (AIFST).

For over 25 years FoodSure has been providing food safety consulting, auditing & training services to almost every sector of the food industry. We’ve helped producers, commodity traders, innovative food startups, large scale manufacturers, metropolitan water utilities, retailers, certification bodies, hospitals and food service operators.

Leanne came strongly recommended by a colleague when we needed some help putting together our first ever Food Safety Plan.  Our process and product is fairly novel, however Leanne had no trouble understanding what we were doing, co-creating a HACCP Plan, GMP Gap Analysis, then supporting us through the hiring of a full time Quality & Food Safety team and gaining regulatory approval. 

Leanne continues to be our 'on-call' consultant for food safety training & expert opinion as needed, and is just great fun to spend time with as well!
